Walking, Hiking and Outdoor Shops

Andy Biggs Watersports

103 Bury Rd, Gosport PO12 3PR, UK – 023 9258 2614

I'm a sceptic in life to be honest and I don't leave reviews very often. However being new to family fun paddle boarding I was browsing for some wetsuit boots with £10 - 12 in mind. Andy reeks of experience and instead of walking away (which I would normally do) when he picked up a boot 3 times the price it was easy to see the merits of the product and I believe that I got it right first time thanks to him, rather than buying cheap and wishing I hadn't. Yes it's only pottering about on calm water but with peace of mind regarding the quality and function of the shoe. We also discussed that not many people leave positive reviews on the internet but I found myself at the keyboard and remembered that (no mean feat at my age LOL) so decided to post.

Andy and his staff are full of knowledge, able to answer many questions offering good advice, around nice guys and a extremely well stocked shop

The Range, Gosport

1 Gunners Way, Gosport PO12 4DS, UK – 023 9252 5000

Great range of products at reasonable prices. Thee store has had a recent refurbishment and upgrade which has improved the store hugely. Although a few items seem to have disappeared they have add more than those lost. Lovely tempting displays and nice staff.

Great shop. Very warm in there. I had to leave after 15 minutes. Feel sorry for staff as they are all so hot and sweaty. Decent air con needed

Homebase - Fareham

Newgate Ln, Fareham PO14 1AN, UK – 0345 640 7547

On a busy retail park with limited tight parking. This branch is getting tired with an ever reducing stock doesn't encourage you to shop here. Wickes is just round the corner so the choices are yours.

Found the staff very helpful. Purchased a few items and was very pleased with how easy everything played out.

Snake bites

Most snake bites in the UK are not serious. But it's important to get all snake bites checked as soon as possible.

Call 999 or go to A&E immediately if:

  • you think you, or someone else, has been bitten by a snake

Find your nearest A&E

Information:

If you're not in the UK when you are bitten by a snake, contact the emergency medical services in the country you're in.

Get foreign travel advice on GOV.UK

What to do while you're waiting for help

Do

  • stay calm, most snake bites in the UK are not serious and can be treated

  • keep the part of your body that was bitten as still as you can

  • lie in the recovery position if you can

  • take paracetamol for any pain

  • try to remember the colour and pattern of the snake to tell the doctor

  • take off any jewellery and loosen clothes near the bite, in case it swells

Don’t

  • do not go near the snake, or try to catch or kill it

  • do not try to suck or cut the poison (venom) out of the bite

  • do not tie anything tightly round the part of the body where the bite is

  • do not take aspirin or ibuprofen, as they can make bleeding worse

What happens at the hospital

You will usually need to stay in hospital for at least 24 hours if you have been bitten by a snake.

The bite will be cleaned and bandaged. You may be given an injection to help protect you from tetanus.

If you were bitten by a poisonous (venomous) snake you will be treated with a medicine to fight the venom. This is given through a thin tube into a vein, called a drip.

Types of UK snake

Only 3 types of snake are found in the wild in the UK.

The adder is the only venomous snake, but you should get all snake bites checked as soon as possible.

Telling the doctors the colour and pattern of the snake that bit you could help them treat it.
